Membership Numbers Under Scrutiny At Westport-Weston YMCA: Report

The facility may have more members than it is supposed to.

WESTPORT, CT — As the Westport-Weston YMCA seeks to have the agreed upon cap on membership expanded beyond 8,000, members of the town's Planning and Zoning Commission claim the facility has already exploded past that figure, reports Westport Now.

The local Y reportedly does not count members under 16 years of age against the 8,000 figure, so membership is believed to be about 10,000, according to the publication.

Some commissioners and residents say that it is a sign of bad faith on the part of the Y because it has already exceeded its membership cap. The membership limit was agreed to as part of concessions to neighbors who voiced concerns over traffic and the facility's septic system's ability to handle its needs.
