WESTPORT, CT — A 50-year-old Norwalk woman was arrested on a warrant Saturday charging her with evading responsibility in connection with an October 2018 crash in which she smashed into two parked vehicles on Riverside Avenue and drove off, according to Westport police.

Anne Arnold was arrested at about 2 p.m. on the Post Road West after an officer spotted her in a disabled vehicle and stopped to help. In speaking with Arnold, the officer discovered that there was an active warrant for her arrest.

The crash occurred at about 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 25 in the 500 block of Riverside Avenue when officers were called to the scene where two legally parked vehicles had been heavily damaged by another vehicle that had fled.

"During their on-scene investigation, officers were able to obtain a registration plate for the suspect vehicle," Westport police said in a statement. "Computer checks showed that it was listed to an Anne Arnold of Norwalk. Norwalk Police were contacted for assistance and responded to the
residence but had no contact with the vehicle or operator that evening. Westport officers
responded to the suspect’s residence again on Saturday October 26, 2018 and located the
vehicle in question. It had sustained heavy damage consistent with the previous day’s motor
vehicle accident. Contact was made at the residence with Arnold, who admitted to being the
vehicle operator as well as to knowingly leaving the accident scene on the previous day."

Westport police applied for and eventually obtained a warrant for Arnold's arrest, and she was taken into custody Saturday.
