NY Man Charged With Issuing Bad Checks At Westport Banks: PD

Police said a New York man is accused of attempting to deposit fraudulent checks at two Westport Bank of America locations.

WESTPORT, CT — Police said a New York man was arrested Friday after allegedly attempting to deposit fraudulent checks at two Bank of America locations.

According to a news release, officers received reports at approximately 3:15 p.m. that two fraudulent checks had been passed at a local Bank of America. While en route, officers were told the accused had moved to a second Bank of America location in town.

Police said officers located Wandy Cruz, 18, of Brooklyn, N.Y., as he was exiting the lobby and attempted to detain him, however he struggled and broke free. He was taken into custody a moment later with assistance from bank security, police said.

According to police, officers learned he had attempted to deposit two more fraudulent checks at that location.

The accused was arrested on charges of issuing a bad check and attempt to commit larceny for his actions at the first location, and was additionally charged with issuing a bad check, attempt to commit larceny and interfering with an officer for his actions at the second location, police said.
