"She explained that she had mailed a personal check using a postal mailbox located on Myrtle Avenue that had apparently been intercepted and cashed by an unknown party," wrote Westport Police Lt. Antony Prezioso in a statement. "The check was originally written in the amount of $3,203.00 but was modified to the amount of $8,300.00. It was further altered as payable to Ramona Wells."

Search warrants were obtained for bank records, which allegedly tied Wells to the account.
"These records suggested that the account belonging to Wells was associated with this as well as other instances of potential check fraud," Prezioso said.
Westport police obtained an arrest warrant for Wells, which eventually led to her Tuesday extradition from New York to face charges in Connecticut.
She was held in lieu of bail of $50,000, and was scheduled to be arraigned in Stamford Superior Court on Wednesday.
