Westport Country Playhouse To Present Script In Hand Reading This Month Of New Comedy (patch.com) — Westport theatergoers can catch a one-night Script in Hand reading of Matt Hoverman's new comedy "The Next Best Thing" at Westport Country Playhouse on Monday, Sept. 14. The story follows a fierce grandmother and the AI android built to replace her, while the nonprofit Playhouse also previews more readings and a touring children's musical coming to its stage.
   

2. Car Crashes Into Wall At Westport Walgreens: Police (patch.com) — Shoppers at the Walgreens on Post Road East in Westport were briefly evacuated after an elderly driver accidentally shifted into the wrong gear and struck an exterior wall. The driver suffered only minor injuries, and town officials later confirmed the building's structural integrity, noting the damage was largely cosmetic.
   

3. New downtown signs are green-lit by HDC and ARB (westportjournal.com) — Downtown Westport is set for a refreshed look after town design boards approved new signs for Brooks Brothers on Main Street and upcoming bakery-restaurant hi' Amba on Jesup Road. The joint HDC and ARB meeting focused on lighting color and placement, clearing a key hurdle before the businesses seek zoning permits and open their doors.
   

4. The Slice returns to Saugatuck (westportjournal.com) — Westport's Saugatuck neighborhood is gearing up for the Slice of Saugatuck Festival on Sept. 26, featuring more than 40 restaurants and retailers, live bands, kids' activities, and beer gardens. The afternoon block party, centered around the Westport/Saugatuck train station area, supports local businesses and has raised $60,000 for the Gillespie Center's food pantry.
