'Offensive Drink' Removed From Westport Restaurant's Menu: Report
The restaurant said it removed all of the cocktail menus following a customer complaint.
WESTPORT, CT — A Westport restaurant removed all of its cocktail menus Sunday following a customer complaint over the name of a drink, according to food and dining news source Eater. The issue concerned a rum-based drink on the restaurant's specialty cocktail list called “The Tuskegee Experiment.”
According to Eater, the drink at 323 Main is named after an experiment that tracked the progression of untreated syphilis in African-American men from 1932 to 1972. A picture of the menu was posted to Facebook by a customer.
According to their website, 323 Main is a neighborhood restaurant serving american cuisine with an array of seafood options. The restaurant offers both a formal dining room and a casual lounge area, and has also received a historical plaque from Westport's Historical Society.
