Old Westport Swim Coach Sentenced to 8-Years in Prison For Sexually Assaulting Two Young Girls

The coach sexually assaulted the two girls who are now 12 and 9 over a three-year period.

A former Westport swim coach was sentenced Friday to eight years in prison for sexually assaulting two Fairfield girls over a three year-period, the Connecticut Post reports.

Jeremy Schare, 44, began assaulting the two girls, who are now 12 and 9, when they were much younger promising them favors such as food and sleepovers in exchange for his behavior, the publication reports.

Schare was coach of the Wreckers boys swimming and diving team for seven years and taught math at Staples High School. The two girls are acquainted with Schare and attend school in Fairfield.

Schare pleaded guilty to two counts of first-degree sexual assault, two counts of risk of injury to a minor and one count of fourth-degree sexual assault.

According to the Connecticut Post, the older girl complained to a counselor at her school. Schare admitted to sexually assaulting the girls to their mother and to his friend who went to the police.

Valerie Wilke, a social worker was also arrested as she did not report the assaults to the police after counselling the two girls, the publication reports.

Schare was also asked to register as a sex-offender and stay away from children.
