Patagonia To Close Westport Store This Month
The popular outdoor and recreational clothing company has had a store in Westport for 18 years.

WESTPORT, CT — Outdoor and recreational clothing giant Patagonia will close its Westport store on Christmas Eve, a company spokesperson confirmed to Patch.
The closure means Connecticut will no longer have a bricks-and-mortar Patagonia store, though its clothing is sold online and in other retail shops, such as REI in Norwalk.
"We're sad to close our Westport store, and we appreciate the support from the community," said Joy Lewis, senior director of North America retail for Patagonia, in an emailed statement to Patch.

"We've operated this store since 2005 and our colleagues and the community were notified last spring that the store would close," Lewis continued. "We have been assisting our colleagues since late summer to find other opportunities within Patagonia and we have been providing resume and interview guidance for those who, understandably, do not wish to leave the Westport community. We’re closing on Dec. 24 because all our U.S. stores, offices and warehouse will close for a holiday break from Dec. 25 through Jan. 1. Westport employees will be paid through the middle of January while we vacate the space. Closing a store is something we never take lightly, but we're proud to continue partnering with local outdoor gear shops to serve customers in Westport."
Patagonia had a store in New Haven for five years, but it closed in 2022.

A specific reason for shutting down the Westport store was not disclosed, The Hour reported.
Local Patagonia customers can visit one of its New York City locations, besides finding its clothing through other retailers.
What might replace Patagonia at the Westport building, which once held Westport Bank and Trust, is not known, but the building's owner, David Waldman, told the Westport Journal that he hopes to line up a tenant for the space by the end of January.
