Police said a Westport man has been arrested on charges of possessing child pornography.

WESTPORT, CT — Police said a Westport man charged with possessing child pornography was arrested Monday after turning himself into police. His charges stem from a months-long investigation into the situation, according to a release.

Police said they received information on Aug. 28, 2017, from the Connecticut State Police Computer Crime Unit of suspected child pornography being shared online. The complaint involved an unidentified person in Westport sharing a picture of child pornography over Facebook with another unidentified person who does not reside in Connecticut, police said.

After a subsequent investigation, the suspect who shared the image was identified by police as Robert Kelly, 43, of Westport, police said. A search warrant was executed at the suspect's residence on Jan. 16, 2018, by members of the Westport Detective Bureau with assistance from the regional Technical Investigation Unit, police said.
