Redistricting In Westport Would Impact Percentage Of Young Students

The town's elementary school population is reportedly growing.

WESTPORT, CT — As many as 3 percent to 5 percent of Westport's elementary population in its public schools might have to be redistricted, as the number of students in those grades continues to increase, the Westport News reported.

By the 2026-27 school year, projections place the number of elementary students in the district will grow to approximately 2,455, about 600 of which will be the soon-to-be-built new Long Lots School. Westport has five elementary schools, two middle schools and Staples High School.

Between 2012-13 and 2019-20, enrollment was dropping in Westport Public Schools, but with the pandemic, the town's population has crept up, and the district reportedly has seen increases in the number of students by more than 10 percent per year through 2023-24.
