Repairs Needed On Elevator In Westport Town Hall
The repairs to the elevator began on Monday.
WESTPORT, CT — Repairs are needed on the elevator in Westport Town Hall, after the 45-year-old lift ran "into technical difficulties," according to Westport Public Works Director Peter Ratkiewich. Exactly what those problems are were not disclosed.
Town Hall will remain open during the repairs, but the public is encouraged to conduct business in the facility prior to 2 p.m. this week
"As a result, there will be some fairly intensive construction activities both within the elevator shaft and outside of Town Hall beginning [Monday]," Ratkiewich said in a statement. "Commencing Tuesday, August 6, there is likely to be considerable noise from 2:00 PM on, potentially until midnight. Barring any further complications, the intensive work is anticipated to be completed by Friday, August 9."

The cost of the repairs was not disclosed, but First Selectman Jim Marpe added, "The significant engineering set back encountered during this project was obviously not anticipated. However, it is helpful that it is occurring during the summer months when activity in Town Hall is reduced. The safety and comfort of Town Hall visitors and employees is paramount and we apologize for the inconvenience."
