Her decision comes as her State Senate campaign enters a phase that requires her full attention, Sarelli said.
"As I concentrate on my State Senate campaign, I believe this is the right time to step aside from the Executive Committee and dedicate myself fully to speaking with voters, listening to their concerns, and building a campaign focused on the future of our communities," Sarelli said.
She also said she hopes to continue receiving support from the Westport Republican Town Committee and Republican town committees throughout Connecticut’s 26th Senate District, which includes all or parts of Darien, New Canaan, Redding, Ridgefield, Stamford, Weston, Westport and Wilton.
Sarelli will face either Weston First Selectwoman Samantha Nestor or state Rep. Lucy Dathan in the November election. Nestor and Dathan, both Democrats, are headed for a primary in August, Good Morning Wilton reported.
"I look forward to working with Republicans, unaffiliated voters, common-sense Democrats, and every resident who believes in practical, responsive leadership," Sarelli said. "With the continued support of Republicans across the 26th District, we can build a stronger future for our town, our district, and our state."
Sarelli said her campaign will focus on issues affecting families, taxpayers and local communities.
"I will always protect and respect the voices of my constituents," Sarelli said. "I want to hear from everyone, whether they agree with me or not. Democracy works best when people have the freedom to speak openly, share their views, and be heard."
She added, "I will bring integrity, character, and accountability to the State Senate. My commitment is to earn the trust of voters through hard work, transparency, and sincere public service."
