Southport Man, 55, Arrested on DUI and Related Charges in Westport

The incident occurred Sunday at about 12:30 a.m. on the Post Road East.

WESTPORT, CT - A 55-year-old Southport man was arrested on intoxicated driving and related charges early Sunday following a traffic stop on the Post Road East, according to Westport police.

Michael Dowd was pulled over by police at about 12:30 a.m. after he allegedly failed to use a turn signal, and his car did not have a license plate light.

"Officers smelled the odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from the vehicle," wrote police in a statement. "Officers later located empty beer cans and an empty wine bottle in the vehicle."

Dowd failed roadside sobriety tests and was taken into custody, but at police headquarters he refused to allow a breath test, according to police.

Dowd was released after posting a $500 bond and is scheduled to appear in Norwalk Superior Court on April 20.
