Special Screening: The War Within (2005)
Free showing of The War Within by Pulitzer Prize winning playwrite Ayad Akhtar followed by a talkback TBA.
It seems that everyone is talking about imminent terrorist plots these days. And those chilling conversations are being brought almost too-close-to-home in the prescient movie The War Within – the latest offering from Westport’s Cinema Initiative. The movie was written by Ayad Akhtar, a Pulitzer prize-winning playwright whose work brings insights into the Muslim experience in the United States.
This 2005 film follows events in the life of a fictitious Pakistani immigrant living in New York City with his family. A childhood friend suddenly arrives on their doorstep with news that he has also come to live in America. What none of them knows is the deadly reason why he is really there.
Will this visitor be successful in carrying out his mission? How does the Americanized family of his old friend react to his presence… and him to all of them?
