Staples Boys Win State Open Indoor Track Title
Junior Henry Wynne finishes first in the 1,000-meter run for the Wreckers

The Staples boys indoor track team captured the state Open title on Saturday at the Floyd Little Athletic Center in New Haven to go with the Class LL championship the Wreckers won earlier in the week.
Junior Henry Wynne won the 1,000-meter run with a time of 2.29.56, almost three seconds better than runner-up Thomas Lupoli of Sheehan (2:32.43).
Staples also won the 4x400 relay and the 1,600 sprint medley relay. The 4x400 relay team, which is the defending New England champion, posted a winning time of 3:26.44 while the 1, 600 sprint medley relay team crossed first in 3:38.93.

Other top finishes for Staples included Dean Hefnawy, who finished second in the pole vault(14-0), and Mikolaj Kulis, who placed sixth in the 3,200-meter run (9:39.20).
Hefnawy's mark in the pole vault was six inches behind winner Tim Murphy of New Fairfield (14-06).

In the team competition, Staples amassed 47 points, finishing ahead of Hillhouse (34), Greenwich (31), Trumbull (26) and Danbury (23).
