The Staples girls soccer team dropped a heartbreaker Saturday, giving up a late goal in a 3-2 defeat to St. Joseph at home.
Sylvia Yanez scored the tiebreaking goal with seven minutes as the Cadets improved to 6-0. Staples slipped to 4-2-1.
Sami Grasso opened the scoring for the Cadets, following up a rebound, but the Wreckers responded in the 13th minute. Maggie Walsh, who came of the bench for Ryan Kirshner, took a cross from Abbey Lake and headed home the equalizer.

Alyssa Christo gave St. Joseph a 2-1 lead in the second half, but the Wreckers tied it again on a goal by Kirschner. After a header by Turner Block was blocked by a defender, the ball bounced in the air and Kirscher knocked it into the net.
Jessie Ambrose made eight saves for the Wreckers, who outshot the Cadets, 12-9.

Staples faces two important contests this week as they Wreckers visit Trumbull on Monday before hosting Greenwich on Wednesday.
