New Canaan's wins came at No. 3 singles, No. 5 singles and No. 1 doubles.
For the Rams, Will Burger downed Graham Hyman, 6-1, 6-2, Tom Worcester handled Justin Kleiner, 6-1, 6-3, and Patrick Newton and Jacob Reiss topped Baxter Stein and Evan Davis, 6-3, 6-1.
-- Jesse Ambrose and Maeve Flaherty each had three goals Thursday, leading Staples to a 14-10 victory over Ridgefield in girls lacrosse action.
Elizabeth Driscoll, Remy Nolan, Ali Croft and Adele Mackey each scored twice for the Wreckers, who improved to 12-1. Staples pulled away in the second half after nursing a 5-4 lead at the intermission.
For Ridgefield (8-5), Caroline Ogden, Brita Christensen, Liana Mathias and
Taylor Fischer had two goals apiece. The other Tigers' goals were scored by

-- Unlike last season, when it finished 18-2 and clinched the top seed, the Staples baseball team hasn't looked up an FCIAC playoff spot heading into the final week of the season.
Still, the Wreckers (11-4 in league play) are in pretty good shape, holding a two-game lead over ninth-place Greenwich (8-6) in the loss column. After losing four of its previous five games, Staples righted the ship with a big 12-1 win over Wilton on Wednesday.
The Wreckers can assure themselves a return to the FCIAC playoffs by winning two of their final three games, although they have a tough test against first-place St. Joseph on Friday.
A loss to St. Joseph means the race could come down to the final game of the season at Greenwich on next Friday. The Wreckers also play at Fairfield Ludlowe on Wednesday.
The Cardinals host Bridgeport Central on Friday, then face Trinity Catholic, Wilton and Staples next week. Wins over BC and TC could keep the pressure on the Wreckers, although Wilton will be a difficult test for Greenwich.
Meanwhile, the Staples softball team is in a bit more of a precarious position as the Wreckers head into the final week of the regular season tied for sixth with Stamford at 9-5 in league play.
Wilton (9-6) is now in sole possession of seventh, while Staples has a one-game leas over Fairfield Ludlowe (8-6) and Fairfield Warde (8-6), who are tied for ninth. Tenth-place Ridgefield (8-7) also is still in contention.
Staples has a pair of tough assignment s coming up against St. Joseph on Friday and undefeated Westhill on Monday. The Wreckers then close out the regular season against Ludlowe and Greenwich. Staples' playoff hopes could come down to its game against Ludlowe next Wednesday.
As far as tiebreakers, Staples lost to Stamford and Wilton. The Wreckers fell to the Warriors 10-4 on Wednesday, further jeopardizing their FCIAC playoff hopes.
