The Staples baseball team virtually locked up an FCIAC playoff spot with Friday's 5-4 win over St. Joseph.
The Wreckers (12-4) head into the final week in third place and hope to nail down a top four seed which would give them the right to host a quaterfinal round game.

However, technically, Staples has not yet officially clinched a playoff spot. The Wreckers need to one of their remaining two games or have Greenwich lose one of its final three games.
Staples concludes the regular season at Greenwich on Friday after visiting Fairfield Ludlowe on Wednesday. Greenwich plays at Trinity Catholic on Monday and at Wilton on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the Staples softball team begins the final week on the outside looking in and will need help.
The Wreckers (9-7) are ninth in the standings, one-half game behind Stamford (9-6), Wilton (9-6) and Fairfield Warde (9-6), who are tied for sixth.
Staples hosts Ludlowe on Wednesday and Greenwich on Friday to conclude the regular season.

Staples 5, St. Joseph 4 -- Tyler Jacobs belted a three-run homer for the Wreckers, who likely locked up an FCIAC playoff spot with the huge win.
Boys lacrosse
Staples 10, Weston 2 -- Charlie Ross scored three goals and Jake Frimet added a pair for the Wreckers.
