Currently tied for third with Danbury, the Staples baseball team (12-4) is trying to secure a home game in the quarterfinals of the FCIAC playoffs. The top four seeds get to host a game in the opening round.

The Wreckers have a one-game lead over Fairfield Warde (11-5) and New Canaan (11-5) with two to play. They beat Warde but lost to New Canaan.

Staples plays at Fairfield Ludlowe on Wednesday at Greenwich on Friday.

Meanwhile, the Staples softball team (9-7) will need a lot of help to get in. The Wreckers are currently ninth, one game behind Stamford, Wilton  and Fairfield Warde, who are tied for sixth at 10-6.

Staples finishes with two two home games -- Ludlowe on Wednesday and Greenwich on Friday.

Girls lacrosse

Boys lacrosse

Staples 10, St. Joseph 9 -- The Wreckers received a tougher than expected test as Nick Maki scored the winning goal for Staples with only four seconds remaining.Charlie Ross and Maki each scored three goals for the Wreckers (13-3), who avenged a loss to the Cadets in last year's FCIAC playoffs.
