-- The Staples boys volleytball team will be gunning for its ninth consecutive FCIAC title on Friday when the Wreckers face Darien in the finals at Fairfield Ludlowe (7 p.m.)

Danny Fishman had 54 assists and four digs in Staples' 3-1 semifinal win over Ridgefield in the semifinals. Darien rallied after losing the first set to defeat Bridgeport Central in four games in the other semifinal.

The Blue Wave, long known for their dominance in girls volleyball, also has emerged as a threat in boys volleyball and will be out to dethrone the Wreckers.

The teams split their two regular-season meetings with Darien defeating Staples for the first time in program history on May 6 at home.  Staples posted a 3-1 win in Westport on April 13.

That was the only loss for the Blue Wave (18-1), who have reeled off 15 consecutive wins since then.

The Wreckers enter the match with a 16-3 mark. The dropped a 3-2 non-league decision in Masuk early in the year and concluded the regular-season with a 3-2 setback at Ridgefield.

-- The Greenwich boys tennis team blanked top-seed Staples 4-0 Thursday to win its ninth FCIAC championship in the last 10 years.

Staples (18-1), which suffered its first loss, defeated Greenwich 6-1 during the regular season, but the Cardinals were without three starters.

Andrew Blumberg defeated Jake Hirschberg, 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2 singles. Freshman Ari Cepelewicz then recorded  a 6-2, 6-4 win over Jesse Heussner at No. 4 singles.

At No. 1 doubles,C.J. Purse and Michael Grund defeated Evan Davis and freshman Baxter Stein, 6-2, 6-3 at first doubles. Greenwich's No. 2 doubles duo of Alex Torelli and Will Benenson won their match to close it out.

At No. 1 singles, Staples'  Danny Hirschberg led Tyler  Kratky, 7-6 (3), 3-2 when the match was suspended.,
