Savoring its third FCIAC championship in four years, the Staples baseball team is now looking for a deep run in the state tournament -- especially since the Wreckers were bounced in the first round in each of last two years.

Staples (18-5), which defeated Danbury 5-3 in the FCIAC title game on Saturday at Harbor Yard, is seeded ninth and will host No. 24 Manchester (9-11) in a first-round contes on Tuesday.

If the Wreckers advance, they could see Danbury against in the second round on Wednesday.  The Staples-Manchester winner faces the Danbury- Shelton winner.

Staples, however, knows not to take anything for granted as it was stunned in the first round as No. 2 seed last season by Hamden.

The Wreckers are seeking their first state championship since 2001.
