Structure Fire Breaks Out At Westport Home: FD
Firefighters worked to extinguish flames both inside and outside the home as it spread to the roof, fire officials said.

WESTPORT, CT — Firefighters fought to extinguished a fire from both inside and outside a large Westport home Saturday night, according to fire officials.
In a news release, Assistant Chief Matthew Cohen said the department initially received a report of a chimney fire on Hillspoint Road around 7:30 p.m.
When crews arrived, they noticed flames coming from the roof and the incident was upgraded to a structure fire, which required the response of four engines, a ladder truck and the shift commander.

Firefighters fought the flame from both inside and outside the home, Cohen said. While the ladder truck deployed resources to the roof, additional crews established a water supply to backup firefighters inside the house.
Firefighters inside the building encountered smoke on the second floor and worked to gain access to the blaze as crews worked to extinguish the fire from outside the home. The fire was ultimately found in an enclosed attic area, where it has extended into the roof supports, Cohen said.

While firefighters were able to extinguish the flames both inside and outside the home, additional crews from Wilton, Norwalk and Fairfield were called to cover stations and provide additional support, Cohen said. Westport Emergency Medical Services and police provided medical coverage and additional support.
According to Cohen, firefighters were able to isolate the fire to one area of the home, however an extensive overhaul of the building was necessary to ensure the fire was extinguished and contained. No injuries were reported.
