Torrington Man Charged With Burglary, Identity Theft: Westport PD

WESTPORT, CT — A 29-year-old Torrington man has been charged after turning himself into police this week in connection with the fraudulent use of credit cards which were stolen from a parked vehicle at a local residence in May, Westport Police said on Friday.

Kevin Herrera turned himself into police this week after local authorities obtained a warrant for his arrest, police said. The arrest stems from an incident on May 7 when Westport Police responded to a home where the resident said that someone had stolen his wallet from his car, police said.

Two of the credit cards, the man told police, had been used illegally for purchases in Norwalk. Detectives went to the two businesses where the purchases were made and used surveillance footage to identify the person who allegedly had been the purchases with the stolen credit cards, police said.

Herrera was identified as the suspect and police obtained a warrant before Herrera turned himself into police on Tuesday. He faces charges of burglary in the third degree, four counts of identity theft and criminal attempt at identity theft, police said. Herrera was released on Promise To Appear and is scheduled for arraignment on Aug. 3 in Stamford Superior Court.
