WESTPORT CHAPTER OF NATIONAL CHARITY LEAGUE ANNOUNCES $7,300 DONATION TO LOCAL CHARITIES

Donation to four philanthropy partners supports needs of food insecure in the wake of COVID-19 Crisis

Westport, Conn, June 3, 2020 – Members of the National Charity League, Inc., Westport Chapter (NCLW) voted in approval of a $7300 donation to four local philanthropy partners supporting the food insecure: Westport Department of Human Services, Homes with Hope Food Pantry (Gillespie), Mercy Learning Center and Person to Person. The donation includes $3,800 of individual member contributions.

“In the wake of this national pandemic the mother and daughter members of the Westport chapter wanted to find ways to help those most in need in our local community,” said Eileen Fanning, President of the Westport Chapter of NCL. “As key philanthropy partners, we’ve seen first-hand the impact the Westport Department of Human Services, Homes with Hope Food Pantry (Gillespie), Mercy Learning Center and Person to Person have on those in need in Westport and the surrounding communities and hope that this donation will help them in their efforts to support the food insecure here at home.”

“The Gillespie Center/Hoskins Place, a program of Homes with Hope, Inc.,(HwH) is grateful to receive this financial donation from NCLW,” added Paris Looney, Vice President and Chief Operating Officer for Homes with Hope. “Our longstanding relationship with NCLW has been of tremendous assistance to our emergency shelter programs and the clients we serve. The organization has provided HwH with donations of all kinds, dedicated many hours in volunteer service projects to improve and enhance our programs and those improvements have been significant.”

Throughout the year, the mother and daughter members of the NCL Westport Chapter collectively contributed over 4,000 hours to various philanthropies locally. The Westport Chapter is proud of its collective impact in serving the Westport community. Each member contributes in a variety of areas through volunteerism, fundraising, mentorship, education and outreach to local philanthropies including Person-to- Person, Susie’s House, Caroline House, Wakeman Town Farm and Food Rescue US.

Part of the donation was funded via members who opted to donate their fees from the Chapter’s Annual Tea in lieu of refunds. The Annual Tea is part of the Chapter’s cultural pillar and gathers members to honor the past and reflect on the year. This year’s tea was cancelled due to COVID-19 and held virtually with over 200 members participating.

“While we were saddened by the cancellation of this year’s Annual Tea and missed the opportunity to reflect together on the hard work and dedication of our members over this past year, we could not think of a better way to celebrate their accomplishments than a donation to the causes we care so much about,” continued Fanning.
