Westport Firefighters Save Bruce Lane and Bayberry Lane Homes in Line of Brush Fire
A downed power line sparked the brush fire Wednesday afternoon.
WESTPORT, CT — Firefighters doused a brush fire Wednesday afternoon that came close to igniting homes on Bruce Lane and Bayberry Lane in Westport, according to officials.
When firefighters arrived on the scene of the reported 1 p.m. fire, they found that "due to wind speed and terrain, the fire was rapidly extending to the residence as well as other residences on top of the ridge line" near the two lanes.
"The initial arriving companies worked quickly on difficult terrain to keep the fire from extending to the residence on Bayberry lane and were able to extinguish the fire before it reached the top of the ridge line," wrote Westport Assistant Fire Chief Brian Meadows in a statement. "Using hand lines, rakes and backpack blowers companies created a fire line and worked on extinguishing any hot spots."
