Westport P&Z Considers Adding a New Residential and Business Zoning District

The commission is scheduled to discuss the matter during a meeting next week.

WESTPORT, CT — The Westport Planning and Zoning Commission on Feb. 2 will discuss a proposed zoning amendment to create a new zoning district called the "General Business District/Residential" zone, announced Westport Planning & Zoning Director Mary Young.

The amendment was proposed by Fairfield land use attorney William J. Fitzpatrick, III, of the firm Fitzpatrick, Fray & Bologna LLC.

"The proposed General Business District/Residential (GBD/R) zone is designed to grow the vitality of downtown Westport by the inclusion of a significant residential component," the amendment states. "The GBD/R promotes a utilization of approximately two-thirds (66.6 percent) of the proposed floor area as residential and one-third (33.3 percent) of the proposed floor area in the zone as office commercial. As noted, the commercial use within the GBD/R is restricted to office use. No retail use in the zone is permitted."
