Westport PD Swears In, Promotes Officers
The two were recognized for their new accomplishments during a ceremony at police headquarters led by First Selectman Jim Marpe.

WESTPORT, CT - During a ceremony Monday, the Westport Police Department promoted an officer to the rank of detective, and welcomed a new recruit to the department.
Sharon Russo was promoted from officer to the rank of Detective, filling a vacancy by the retirement of Det. William Harsche. According to the department, Russo is an 8-year veteran of the police force, joining the Westport force in March 2008 where she has been assigned to the patrol division. She attended Marymount Manhattan College and has earned the Westport Police Investigator’s Award. Det. Russo finished first in the promotional testing process.
Michael Tomanelli, 21 years old and a native of Marlboro, NY, was sworn in as the department's newest officer. According to the department, he is a graduate of Sacred Heart University and is currently completing his Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice, also at Sacred Heart. Officer Tomanelli will begin his recruit training at the Connecticut Police Academy on April 1, 2016.
