WESTPORT, CT — A subsidiary of Westport-based pharmaceutical company BioSig Technologies is in Phase II trials for a drug to treat the coronavirus (COVID-19), writes the Norwalk Hour.
The oral treatment is called merimepodib, and as many as eight hospitals in the United States are on the cusp of trying the drug on humans, according to officials with BioSig and its subsidiary, ViralClear Pharmaceuticals.
Under the clinical trial, two coronavirus studies will be conducted. One of the studies, which already has shown some promise, involves patients receiving merimepodib teamed with the anti-viral drug remdesivir.
