Westport Police Department Offers Citizens' Police Academy

The nine-week course will be open to residents 21-years-old and older.

WESTPORT, CT — The Westport Police Department will offer a Citizens’ Police Academy starting on September 8, to give participants a better understanding of the role of the police department in the community.

According to officials, the academy will be limited to 24 people, who will participate in classes designed to take them through the various aspects of law enforcement. The academy's instructors are some of the highly trained and experienced members of the Westport Police Department.

In addition to the classes, participants will have the opportunity to learn about the different divisions and specialized units of the department, as well as how the department operates. They will experience a “ride-a-long” with an officer from the patrol division, and they will also receive CPR/AED certification.
