Westport Police Purchasing Body Cameras for Officers

The decision to buy the cameras is partly due to false complaints filed against the department, the police chief said.

Up to 15 Westport police officers may soon be wearing cameras on their person after the Board of Finance approved the expenditure request, the CT Post reports.

Police Chief Dale Call reportedly said several false complaints were filed against the department over the past few years. The cameras worn on the body serve as protection for the officers and increase transparency, he said.

There are 64 full-time police officers on the force, according to the Westport Police Department homepage.
