Westport Police Warn Motorists about Abundance of Bicyclists on May 22

The annual "Bloomin' Metric" bicycling event, hosted by the Sound Cyclist Bicycle Club, will fill Westport roads with cyclists on Sunday.

WESTPORT, CT - The annual "Bloomin' Metric" bicycling event will be held throughout Westport on Sunday, May 22, and local police are warning motorists to be careful.

Hosted by the Sound Cyclists Bicycle Club, the event draws hundreds of cyclists to town, filling roads with them throughout Westport. It features three different routes - 27 miles, 48 miles and 63 miles - all of which start and finish at Sherwood Island State Park, and then wind their way through Westport. The two longer routes also encompass parts of Fairfield and Weston.

The event rides through Westport from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., according police.

"Please be aware there will be significant amount of bicyclist on the road throughout town," said Westport Police Lt. Eric Woods in a statement. "Please use caution while traveling in Westport."
