Westport Resident Launches Fine Jewelry Line
The Genevieve Lau Jewelry collection – including rings, bracelets, pendants and earrings – features pieces in white, yellow and rose gold, many embellished with diamonds, sapphires and topaz.
Last summer, with the last of her five children safely packed off to camp, Jennifer Lau finally had some time on her hands. “I had so much free time and decided to use every second of it to do something I had always wanted to do,” explains Lau, a former Wall Street sales trader turned fashion stylist. “The jewelry thing was brewing in me for awhile,” she says. As a fashion stylist, Lau explains that she was frustrated with trying to find fine jewelry for her clients at an affordable price, so, naturally, she picked up a sketch pad and decided to design her own line.
Working with a local jeweler, Lau’s drawings came to life. With a focus on the timeless beauty of gemstones and the simple, elegant radiance of gold, Lau’s jewelry has a classic, timeless appeal. The collection – including rings, bracelets, pendants and earrings – features pieces in white, yellow and rose gold, many embellished with diamonds, sapphires and topaz. In her pieces, Lau combines cutting edge design, by mixing unexpected colors and proportions, with an everyday wearability that every woman can appreciate.
The line, named for Lau’s great-grandmother, Genevieve, which also happens to be a French translation of Jennifer, has an international flair. The pieces are named for the cities that Lau has had the opportunity to visit, “Cities, like jewelry or clothes, tell a story,” explains Lau. “There was just a little something in the pieces that I designed – the shape or the color - that reminded me of the places I’ve visited.”

Lau describes her signature pieces, The Versailles bracelet and The Los Angeles necklace, as “Timeless yet fun.” She says, “They both capture the feeling I want them to evoke, pretty and edgy.” The Versailles bracelet features an open bangle of rose gold with end caps studded with black and white diamonds. The Los Angeles necklace is perfect for everyday wear - a simple vertical stick pendant extending from a delicate gold chain. Prices for the line start at $250 and range up to $3,000.
All Genevieve Lau designs are currently available through her website, www.genevievelau.com , private appointments and trunk shows – with a goal of having trunk shows throughout the country – however, right now, she is thrilled with the success that she has had with individual clients, “The personal appointments work so wonderfully because I have time to spend with each client that I meet. In the month since I launched my line, I’ve already seen repeat buyers, which I view as an amazing sign! They buy one piece and are already thinking about what they want to buy next time,” she says excitedly.
While Lau’s jewelry is an affordable luxury to many Fairfield County residents, Lau doesn’t overlook those who are in need. In an effort to give back to the community, Lau donates 10% of profits to various local charities including Near & Far Aid, TTMF and TeamBrent, as well as the Make-A-Wish Foundation and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. “I have made it a goal in life to give back as much of my time and money as I can,” states Lau. My husband and I try to teach that to our kids. We are so fortunate and it is important to help those that are struggling. We feel that it’s one of the greatest gifts that we can give our children – letting them see what you give back and empowering them to give back also,” she says.
