Theboys basketball team suffered a 63-36 loss to defending Class M state champion Trinity Catholic on Tuesday.

The Wreckers dropped to 1-2 while the Crusaders improved to 3-0.

Jason Boswell scored 13 points and Schadrac Casimir added 10 to pace a balanced attack for Trinity Catholic, which put away the contes early by building an 18-2 lead after the first quarter.

Paschal Chukwu dominated inside for the Crusaders with 15 rebounds and five blocks. Boswell had six assists and seven rebounds.

Peter Rankowitz scored 14 points and Michael Argosh added 12 to pace the Wreckers.

Erica Stein poured in 21 points and Jess Coelho added 15 as the Staples girls basketball team held off a late run to defeat Trinity Catholic 51-48 Tuesday.

The Wreckers, who improved to 4-1, took a 37-29 lead into the final period, when they were outscore, 19-14.

Mackenzie Griffin had 18 points to lead the Crusaders (3-2) while Ali Palma added 12 points and 14 rebounds.  Coelho also pulled down seven rebounds for Staples.
