Four football players were named to the CHSCA Class LL all-state team.
Earning the honor on offense was running back Joey Zelkowitz, who was joined on the squad by defensive backs James Frusciante and Nick Kelly and punter Jon Heil.

Heil made a name for himself by rushing for an FCIAC-record 366 yards in the Wreckers' Class LL quarterfinal game against Ridgefield.
Staples finished the season with an 11-1 record, losing to top-ranked Xavier 42-7 in the Class LL state finals.

The Staples-Weston-Shelton boys hockey team looks for a 3-0 start on Friday when the Wreckers face off against Watertown-Pomperaug at 5 p.m. at the Taft-Oden Rink.
Aaron Liu registered three goals Wednesday as the Staples-Weston-Shelton defeated Lyman Hall 6-1. Andrew Pfefferle, Wyatt Fern and Matt Weisgerber also scored for the Wreckers.
