The girls basketball team fell to St. Joseph 46-41 Thursday in the championship game of the Notre Dame of Fairfield Appalachian Christmas tournament.
Nancy Stablein poured in 21 points to lead the Cadets, who improved to 6-1. Jessica Dowdy added 11 for the Cadets.

Nikki Bukowsky scored 16 and Jess Coelho added 13 for the Wreckers, who dropped to 5-2.
Staples built an 18-16 halftime lead but St. Joseph took control by outscorig the Wreckers 19-7 in the third quarter to take 35-25 lead

James Frusciante and Michael Argosh each scored 18 points as the Staples boys basketball team defeated Newtown 65-56 in the consolation game of the Ridgefield holiday tournament.
Peter Rankowitz added 17 points and grabbed seven rebounds for the Wreckers, who improved to 2-3. Frusciante handed out five assists.
Staples built a 34-27 lead at halftime. After Newtown (2-3) pulled with 44-42 after three, the Wrecker put away the contest by outscoring the Nighthawks 21-14 after the final eight minutes.
