As much as the Staples-Weston-Shelton boys hockey team has been through this season, the Wreckers still have a chance to qualify for the state tournament.
The Wreckers, who have been decimated by injuries, snapped a 10-game losing strek Monday with a 6-0 victory over East Catholic.
Staples improved to 7-11 and needs to win one of its final two games to make the Division III tournament. Last year, the Wreckers reached the state final, losing 4-0 to Watertown-Pomperaug in the championship game.

The Staples High School boys basketball team heads into its final regular season game on Wednesday still mathematically alive n the FCIAC playoff race but the Wreckers may need a miracle to get in.
First, the Wreckers (9-10, 8-9) have to win at Bassick (14-5, 12-5), and the Lions figure to be an angry team at home following Tuesday's 77-72 loss to Stamford.
If that happens, Staples needs Bridgeport Central to lose to a four-win McMahon, which is ironic since the Staples are coming off a 64-62 defeat to the Senators.
A victory by Central would eliminate the Wreckers because the Hilltoppers would be the seventh FCIAC team will 10 wins and the Greenwich-Danbury winner would also reach double figures. Staples can only finish at 9-9.
If Staples and McMahon win, it will come down to tiebreakers. Central, Danbury, Greenwich, Fairfield Warde and Trumbull are all tied for seventh at 9-8. The latter two have tough games on Wednesday against St. Joseph and Trinity Catholic, respectively.
Staples has tiebreakers over Central and Danbury but lost to Warde, Staples and Greenwich.
