Staples basketball player Jess Coelho has been named the female winner of the BlueStreak-Overtime FCIAC Player of the Week award.
Coelho averaged 18.5 points and 12.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 2.0 blocks and 1.5 steals in wins over Bridgeport Central and New Canaan.

The boys basketball team has a pair of winnable games on tap this week as the Wreckers try to climb over .500 for the first time this season.

On Tuesday, Staples visits 1-7 Harding before hosting 2-6 Darien on Thursday.
After defeating Bridgeport Central and New Canaan last week, the Wreckers (4-4) are looking for their first three-game winning streak of the season.
Harding (1-7) is coming off its first win of the season, a 67-52 victory over Wilton on Friday.
It also was the first win for new coach Charles Clemons, who took over for the legendary Charlie Bentley (nine state championships in 34 seasons as the Presidents' coach).
Staples' last game was a 45-29 victory over New Canaan on Thursday.
The Staples girls, who also have won three in a row to improve to 6-2, host Harding on Tuesday. The game initially was scheduled for 7 p.m. but was moved up to 5:30 p.m.
The Wreckers are coming off a solid 62-56 victory over New Canaan on Thursday that improved their FCIAC record to 6-2.
Harding has dropped five in a row and enters Tuesday's contest with a 2-9 record.

Forest Savage had a four-point game Monday, leading the Staples-Weston-Shelton boys hockey team to an 8-1 victory over Norwalk-McMahon.
Savage scored two goals and added a pair of assists for the Wreckers (6-1), who rebounded from their first loss of the season, a 4-2 setback to Trumbull on Saturday.
Norwalk-McMahon suffered its third straight loss and dropped to 2-5. It had allowed a combined 18 goals in its previous two games against New Canaan (9-1) and Greenwich (9-2).
