Jess Coelho scored 18 points Tuesday as the girls basketball team routed Harding 68-32 in Westport to clinch a berth in the CIAC Class LL state tournament.
The Wreckers extended their streak of qualifying for the state tournament to 28 consecutive years, the second-longest run in Connecticut high school girls basketball history. Only Masuk has a longer streak.

Erica Stein added 17 points for the Wreckers, who improved to 8-3. Four players reached double figures for Staples as Lisa Shirafuji added 11 points and Nikki Bukovsky chipped in with 10.
Staples jumped out to a 20-10 lead after the first quarter, then tossed a shutout in the second period, outscoring the Presidents 15-0 to extend its cushion to 35-10.

The Wreckers used a 22-13 burst in the third period to stretch their lead to 57-23.

Peter Rankowitz scored 21 points Tuesday as the Staples High School boys basketball team coasted to a 73-50 victory over Harding in Bridgeport.
James Frusciante added 15 points and Michael Argosh chipped in with 12 for the Wreckers, who climbed over .500 for the first time this season at 5-4. Staples extended its winning streak to three games.
The Wreckers jumped out to a 24-16 lead after the first quarter and maintained a 37-31 edge at the half.
Staples then broke it open in the second half by outscoring the Presidents 36-19 to win going away.
Davon McAllister scored 10 points to pace Harding, which dropped to 1-8 under first-year coach Charles Clemons.

Dana Cerone and Katie Curnan each scored two goals to lead the Ridgefield girls hockey team to a 7-3 victory over the Trumbull-Staples Co-op.
Lucy Wemyss and Caitlin DeBartolo also had goals for the Tigers, who improved to 9-3.
Nina Danforth tallied twice and Kaly Goniki once for Trumbull-Staples, which dropped to 3-7.
Maggie Philbin made 14 saves for Ridgefield and Casey Bang stopped 27 for Trumbull-Staples.
Ridgefield jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the first period, then extended its advantage to 6-1 after two periods.
