Westport's David Mortner, a 20-year-old student at the University of Vermont, won the second race of the year in the Westport Road Runners Series.

Mortner completed the 3.04-mile race at Longshore Country Club in a time of 17.11. He finished 16 seconds ahead of another Westporter, 20-year-old Matt Marriott, who attends Duke.

David Litoff of Louisvile, Colorado, 50, took third in a time of 17:31.

The top female finisher was Litoff's 15-year-old daugher Ashley, wo crossed the finish line in 20.59, good for 23rd overall.

Among local runners the top woman was 17-year-old Meredith Ott of Darien, who posted  a time of 21:01.

The semifinals in the 12-year-old District Two Little League tournament will take place on Monday at Bridgeport's Blackham School.

Westport faces Fairfield American and Fairfield National takes on Trumbull American in semifinal games 5:30 p.m.

The two winners clash on Tuesday in the winner's bracket final at Blackham while the two losers meet in the double elimination playoffs at Blackham 2.

The finals are set for next weekend with the winner advancing to the section one tournament, which is being hosted by Orange.

Westport tied Trumbull National at 3-2 in pool play, but won a tiebreaker based on a 10-4 victory last Sunday.

Fairfield American and Fairfield National each went 5-0 in pool play and are the favorites to meet in the final.

Fairfield American, which became the first team from Fairfield to play in the Little League World Series last year, is seeking its third straight District Two title.

Fairfield National allowed only one run in pool play,outscoring its opponents 22-1, while Fairfield American had a 26-7 edge in its five contests in pool play.
