Recent Staples graduates Frankie Bergonzi, Brendan Lesch and Greg Gudis are members of the Beachside Soccer Club that will compete this week in the United Soccer League's sixth annual Super-20 North American finals.
The three former Staples players, along with Jake Zuniga and Andrew Torres, who played at Norwalk, are the only 18-year-olds on a team dominated by college sophomores.

The team leaves on Tuesday for the tournament, which will be played Thursday through Sunday in Tampa, Fla.
Bergonzi, Lesch and Gudis joined the older club after the U-18 season ended. They also played for Beachside's U-20 squad last year as 17-year-olds.

The men’s field includes 12 teams, including two that have yet to lose a match this season. One of those teams, the Columbus Crew (7-0-1) of the Midwest Division, is the defending Super-20 Men’s champion. Beachside qualified by finishing third with a 7-3 record in the Mid-Atlantic League.
The nationals consist of three groups of four. Beachside's group includes Lower Merion, Toronto Lynx and North Virginia Royals.
Beachside openes on Thursday against North Virginia, then takes on takes the Toronto Lynx on Friday and Lowe Marion on Saturday. The semifinals also are set for Saturday, with the championship game slated for Sunday. The three group winners and the top second-place finisher advance to the playoff round.
The Westport 10-year-old baseball team's game against North Stamford in the sectional one tournament was postponed and reschedule for Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. at Peter J. Foley Little League in Naugatuck.
Westport, 2-1 in pool play, can clinch a spot in the sectional championship with a win.
The Westport senior American Legion team finished the season with a 8-19 record after Sunday's 3-1 loss to Fairfield. The junior squad finished 10-16 after Monday's scheduled finale against Stamford was cancelled
Former Staples standout Danny Hirschberg is entered in the boys 18 USTA claycourt championships, which began Sunday in Delray Beach, Fla.
Hirschberg, who lost to Fairfield's Nolan Paige in the finals of the New England sectionals, had a bye into the second round, but lost to Michael Rinaldi of Palm City, Fla, 6-0, 6-2 in his first match on Monday.
Hirschberg now drops into the consolation bracket and faces Weston's Max Macey, a star at St. Luke's, on Tuesday.
