The Westport 10-year-old baseball team fell to Edgewood 5-1 Wednesday in the section one finals at the Peter J. Foley Little League in Naugatuck.

Westport went 3-2 in the tournament after winning the district two title in Trumbull. Edgewood now advances to the state championship.

There are five former Staples players on the Beachside Club team that begins play in the in the Super 20 North American finals on Thursday in Tampa, Fla.

The Staples contingent includes recent graduates Frankie Borgonzi, Greg Gudis and Brendan Lesch along with Adam Liu ('09), and Michael McCarthy ('10) and Alan Reiter ('10).

Beachside, which begins play in the 12-team tournament on Thursday, qualified by finishing finishing send (7-3) in the Mid-Atlantic League.of the United Soccer League.

Beachside’s group includes Lower Merion (Pa), Toronto Lynx and North Virginia Royals.

Former Staples standout Danny Hirschberg lost Wednesday in the USTA boys 18 claycourt championships. He played four matches in the tournament, winning two and losing two.
