Staples' Danny Hirschberg cruised into the finals of the state Open tennis championship Monday at Hamden by barely breaking a sweat.

He dispatched Scott Rubinstein of Avon 6-0, 6-0 in the finals to advance to Tuesday's final against Foran's Bradley Orban, which was postponed until Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. at the Yale courts.

Hirschberg has won seven of his nine matches in the Class L and state Open by 6-0, 6-0 scores including the last three.  In the nine matches he has lost a combined eight games.

The two-time Class LL individual champion, Hirschberg helped the Wreckers edge Greenwich for their first Class LL team state title since 1988. Staples did win the Class L title in 2008.

-- Staples' Maeve Flaherty was one of six Connecticut girls players to earn All-American honors by US Lacrosse.

The other Fairfield County players recognized were New Canaan's Sarah Mannelly and goalie Maddie Kratz of CIAC Class M state champion Wilton.

Staples lost in the second round of the Class L tournament to eventual state finalist Glastonbury, 11-7.
