League champion Staples had five players on the All-FCIAC baseball first team, the most of any school in the league. Regular-season champion St. Joseph and Norwalk each had four first-team picks.
First-team selections for the Wreckers included pitcher Rob Gau, who defeated Danbury in the FCIAC championship game, first baseman Colin McCarthy, second baseman Mike Scott, shortstop Tyler Jacobs and center fielder Ben Lipper.

Pitcher Jim Kopack catcher Mike McGowan, third baseman Bryan Terzian and left fielder Brendan Bernstein were named to the All-FCIAC West Division team.
-- Three Beachside Soccer Club teams, which feature seven Staples players, recently win state premier cup championships to advance to the US Youth Soccer Region I tournament next month in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.

Dylan Evans and Ben Root are members of the U-17 team, Aaron Liu, Jake Malowitz and Taylor McNair are defenders on the U-16 squad and Diego Alanis and Harry Birch play for the U-15 side.
The US Youth Soccer Region I Championships, which will feature top teams in the Under-12 through Under-19 age groups, kickoff with round robin games July 1-3. Semifinals are Monday, July 4. The US Youth Soccer Region I Champions will be crowned following final games on July 5.
Youth Soccer State Cup champions and select runners-up from 15 US youth soccer state associations in Region I, including host Eastern Pennsylvania will participate. The other state sssociations represented are Connecticut, Delaware, Eastern New York, Pennsylvania West, Maine, West Virginia, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York West, Rhode Island, Vermont and Virginia.
-- The annual Faxon Stratton road races will take place this weekend at Jennings Beach in Fairfield.
The 5K race is set fo Saturday at 8:30 a.m. and the half marathon starts Sunday morning at 8:30. The field is filled for the half marathon, but there are spots remaining for the 5K, which will be capped at 1,500 runners. This is the 31st year for the half marathon, which is considered one of the top road races in New England.
The primary charity for the Fairfield road races is the The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp. Founded in 1988 by Paul Newman, The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp in Ashford, Connecticut is a nonprofit, residential summer camp and year-round center serving children and their families coping with cancer and other serious illnesses and conditions.
Through camp programs, year-round outreach to hospitals and clinics, and ongoing services for children, families and caregivers, the camp serves more than 15,000 people annually. All of the camp's services are provided free of charge.
Ethiopia's Bado Worku won last year's half marathon with a time of 1:05.49, finishing two seconds ahead of countryman Worku Beyi. Ethiopians took seven of the first nine spots.
The top local finisher was Ridgefield's Philip Gartland, who was 10th overall.
Danbury's Tucker Schaefer, 19, won the 5K race with a time 16:27, 19 seconds ahead of Litchfield's Colin Gannon, also 19. Fairfield's Christopher Barrett was third in 16:55.
