Westport Scores and Standings: Nov. 16

After knocking off No. 5 seed Westhill 2-1 on Wednesday, the Staples girls soccer team will take on top seed Glastonbury in the semifinals on Friday or Saturday at a site to be determined.

The Tomahawks advanced with a 3-1 win over No. 25 Ridgefield. Interestingly, Glastonbury will be playing its third straight FCIAC opponent. After a first-round bye, it defeated Darien 2-1 in the second round.

The Tomahawks also were the top seed last year but were upset No. 16 seed Fairfield Ludlowe 1-0 in the second round.

Glastonbury went undefeated in the regular season, going 13-0-2.

The Staples girls volleyball dropped a 3-0 (25-22, 27-25, 25-21) decision to third-seeded Newtown in the quarterfinals of the Class LL state tournament on Tuesday.

The Wreckers concluded their season at 18-4 while Newtown (19-1) advances to face No. 3 Cheshire in the semifinals on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.

In the first game of the semifinal doubleheader, top seed Darien faces No. 4 Southington at 5 p.m.
