Ryan Kirshner scored three goals as the Staples girls soccer team defeated Bridgeport Central 5-0 at home on Thursday to improve to 2-0 early in the season.
After the Wreckers missed some early chances while dominating, junior Turner Block got Staples on the board 19 minutes into the first half. A minute later, Kirshner put the Wreckers up by two goals.

Later in the half, Abby Lake turned the corner and set up Kirshner with a tap-in to give Staples a three goal margin at the intermission.
Kirshner completed her hat trick with a blast from 35 yards out on the right side early in the second half. The Wreckers completed the scoring when Chloe Rosenfield fed fellow frosh Megan Root for a blast from close range.

Junior goalkeeper Callie Ahlgrim make a spectacular save with just seconds left to preserve the shutout.
Staples could be shorthanded for its next game at Danbury on Monday (4 p.m,). The Wreckers will likely be without strikers Ali Crofts, who is nursing a bad hamstring, and Adele Mackey, who left Thursday's game early with an ankle injury.
