Lorenz Esposito scored two early goals, sparking the Staples boys soccer team to a 7-0 victory over Bridgeport Central on Tuesday at Loeffler Field.
David Hoffman then added a pair before Steve Smith found the back of the met to give the Wreckers a 5-0 lead at the half.

Ethan Bradeen and Jay Kaplan tallied in the second half, when the Wreckers used an entirely different lineup.
Central actually won the two previous meetings between the teams, and both were shutout victories. But the Hilltoppers are in a rebuilding mode after suffering major graduation losses. Staples improved to 2-0

The Staples football team, which opened its season with a 21-7 win over St. Joseph, climbed two spots to No. 5 in the Connecticut Sportswriters' Alliance poll.
The Wreckers remained sixth in the New Haven Register's top 10, the state's other media poll.
However, Staples moved up to seventh in the New London Day coaches' poll after not being ranked in the preseason.
