The girls basketball kept its slim FCIAC playoff hopes alive Monday following a bizarre 50-47 victory over Greenwich, but will need help to get in.
The Wreckers had to hold on Monday despite outscoring Greenwich 19-0 in the first quarter and leading 30-11 at the half.

The Cardinals pulled within 37-33 entering the final period after outscoring Staples 20-7 in the third quarter.
Nikki Bukovsky scored 20 points and Emily Stein added nine for the Wreckers, who improved to 11-8 and 10-7.

Caroline Barrett scored 19 points and Jenny Cepedes added 14 for the Cardinals, who dropped to 4-15 and 3-14.
With Darien defeating Fairfield Warde 49-42 and St. Joseph topping Stamford 54-36 on Monday, the Blue Wave, Black Knights, Mustangs and Wreckers all with enter the final day of the season with 10-7 league records.
However, the winner of the Stamford-Warde game cliches a spot and Darien can secure a berth with a victory over winless Bassick. To get in, Staples must win at Ridgefield and somehow hope Darien loses to the Lions.

The Greenwich boys basketball team escaped with a 41-40 victory over Staples on Monday to improve its FCIAC playoff chances.
The Cardinals, who had lost four of their previous five games, improved to 11-6 and 9-6 overall while Staples dropped to 8-9 and 7-8.
Greenwich entered play Monday tied with Bridgeport Central and Stamford for sixth place in the FCIAC standings.
Staples held an 18-16 lead at the half, but Greenwich built a 28-20 advantage in the third quarter on the strenth of a 10-0 run, then held on in the final minutes.
Alejandro Rodriguez scored 17 points for Greenwich - including eight in the decisive run - and Sem Kroon added 11 for the Cardinals.
Mike Argosh scored 14 points and Peter Rankowitz added 10 for Staples, which dropped its second straight contest and fell two games behind the Cardinals in the FCIAC standings.
