Westport Star Taxi Sues CT Over Uber-like Businesses
Two taxi firms suing the state, claiming CT is ignoring safety regulations.

Taxi cab companies from Stamford and Westport are suing the state because of what they contend is a lack of safety regulations on ride-hailing businesses, including Uber.
Stamford Yellow Cab and Westport Star Taxi have filed suits, arguing that the ride-hailing businesses are getting a free ride by Connecticut that is letting them do business without meeting the safety rules and regulations that govern cabs, according to The Courant.

In their defense, both the state departments of Transportation and Motor Vehicles claim that as government agencies they are immune from legal action. But, according to The Courant, the taxi companies filed a motion two weeks ago claiming the state sacrificed its right to sovereign immunity by exceeding its legal authority.
