Westport U-11 Girls Soccer Team Crowned Co-State Champions
U-11 teams tied after two overtime periods.

Westport’s U-11 girls soccer team has been crowned joint state champions after a hard-fought Connecticut Cup final ended tied after two overtime periods.
Westport took an early lead in the game against Suffield but the score was level at 2-2 at the full-time whistle - and after two extra 10-minute periods of play.
"All the girls worked so hard and played very well," said coach Kristin Ryan, in an email. "We are so proud of the girls."

The Connecticut Cup co-victory is the second success for Westport’s blue travel team. The 14-strong squad was also the district champion in the fall season, with no defeats.
It’s Ryan’s first year coaching Westport’s blue travel team. She is a Physical Education teacher at Bedford Middle School and herself a former Westport Soccer Association player. (Travel soccer teams are classified blue, red and white, with blue being the most able).

The Westport team travelled to Curtiss Park in Simsbury for the CT Cup game Saturday, after beating Rocky Hill 4-3 the previous weekend.
The team's assistant coach was Heidi McGee and the manager was Debbie McWhirter.
