Westport Veterans: You're Eligible for Tax Exemptions

Click below to learn about the available programs.

WESTPORT, CT — Veterans are being reminded to file their DD-214 in the Westport Town Clerk’s Office prior to Sept. 30, 2016, because the exemption accounts for $6,000 off an assessment and will be reflected in their July 2017 tax bill.

All veterans (or widows/widowers of veterans) who have served during an active period of war for at least 90 days and have received an honorable discharge are eligible for the exemption. Veterans who have already filed and are receiving an exemption do not need to re-file.

Westport also offers a local option for an additional $20,000 off of an assessment, based on an income qualifying program. Maximum qualifying income is $60,200 for a single veteran and $67,900 for a married veteran. Applications for this program also will be accepted prior to Sept. 30.
